The War in Heaven Continues Through Socialism

In a nutshell, the war in heaven was between the followers of Jesus Christ and the followers of the devil.  The plan of Jesus Christ was for all people to come to Earth and have their free agency; to make their own decisions of how they would act.  All glory would be God's.  We would rise or fall on the basis of our own decisions.  The devil's plan was to just force everyone to be good and have no choice about it.  If we just gave the devil our power we would all be saved, was the devil's claim.  We all chose Christ's plan, and so here we are on earth.  End of story?  Not exactly.  If this scenario sounds familiar, we are still fighting this war in heaven here on earth.  There are those who want their freedom to act and say and do as they choose (as long as they are not infringing upon the rights of others).  And then you have the statists on the other side (socialists and communists).  This side would like to just force you to be good.  Their force involves forcing you to give your money to the poor (spread the wealth) through taxes and entitlement programs such as Obamacare (do you hate poor people and old people?), make you wear your seatbelt and not eat junk food (it is for your own good!), drive tiny cars and pay carbon taxes and recycle (don't you care about the environment?), and a myriad of other regulations.  They want to force businesses into regulations and taxes that they have deemed desirable even if it puts the businesses out of business.  In short, they would like control over everything.  This ultimately leads to you having no agency of your own.  But people don't notice because it is "for your own good".  At least at first.  Also, you are forced into being good by a government whose definition of "being good" is fluid and flawed.

What is socialism? It is simply governmental ownership and management of the ways to produce and distribute goods; governmental ownership and management of companies.  We have quasi-socialism here in America now through social security and Medicare/Medicaid and as Obama is currently in the process of attaining more control of more businesses.  The current attempt at control is over banks through financial regulatory reform.  As the government controls more and more businesses, our leaders in government tell us this will give us all more economic security; that they know best.  If we give them our power, we will all be saved, the government says.

During the war in heaven, the devil promised us eternal security at the expense of our freedom.  Here on earth, the subtle devil, through socialism, is promising us economic security at the expense of our freedom.  The fight against socialism here on earth truly is a continuation of our premortal war in heaven.  The sad truth is that, even as we give up our freedom, economic security is fleeting (see Greece), and we will be left with nothing.

"Satan argued that men given their freedom would not choose correctly; therefore he would compel them to do right and save us all. Today Satan argues that men given their freedom do not choose wisely; therefore a so-called brilliant, benevolent few must establish the welfare government and force us into a greater socialistic society." - Ezra Taft Benson, 1965, General Conference

"As important as are all other principles of the gospel, it was the freedom issue which determined whether you received a body. To have been on the wrong side of the freedom issue during the war in heaven meant eternal damnation. How then can Latter-day Saints expect to be on the wrong side in this life and escape the eternal consequences? The war in heaven is raging on earth today. The issues are the same: ‘Shall men be compelled to do what others claim is for their best welfare’ or will they heed the counsel of the prophet and preserve their freedom?”  - Ezra Taft Benson, 1965, General Conference

  1. I love this! I have never once thought of it like this, nor have I ever compared the war in heaven to anything here on earth, but it makes PERFECT sense! I am glad I discovered your blog, it's in sync with my political views.
