Are We All Statists Now?

So what is so wrong with statism (socialism/communism)?  Under statism, the citizenry has all of their needs met by the state.  Health care (Obamacare), retirement (Social Security), education, and other needs are taken care of by the state ( federal government).  As you can see, America is fairly statist (socialist) right now.  So what is the problem with this?  The problem with this is that the more control you give of your life over to your government, obviously the less control you have over yourself.  As you give the government control, you lose your free agency, and you lose freedom.  An even bigger problem is that you no longer have need for God.  In the scriptures it says that "no man can serve two masters".  If you look to the government to take care of all your needs, then you are not looking to God to help you.  It is God's way to help you to help yourself.  It is the state's way to just tell you what to do.  And the state does not have your best interest in mind.  The scriptures speak of the great and abominable church.  This church that is being spoken of is statism.

I like to compare it to the Tower of Babel spoken of in the scriptures.  These people were trying to attain heaven on earth.  They decided they had no need for God, they would just get to heaven by themselves.  Just like this, those in charge of our government currently are trying to create a socialist utopia; they are trying to create heaven on earth.  They feel they have no need for God, they will just do it themselves.  In this way, I think they even feel like God themselves and want to be in charge and tell people what to do to create and govern their socialist utopia.  In my opinion, many of them do not even believe in God.  John Dingell on March 23, 2010 said of Obamacare: "The harsh fact of the matter is when you're going to pass legislation that will cover 300 American people in different ways it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people."  There you have it.  Our government is using Obamacare as a means to control us.

Statism is a conflicting ideology with freedom and belief in God.  I would much rather have God as my master than the state.  I believe my rights come from God and are not manufactured by the state (as in Obamacare being used to manufacture the right of all Americans to have health care).  We must rise up together and call on God to help us help ourselves.

Communism is simply one of the many derivatives of statism.  Any call to eschew communism would be a call to eschew any of the derivatives of statism.  In the words of Ezra Taft Benson from 1979:  "On 3 July 1936, the First Presidency published this warning to Church members:  'Communism is not a political party nor a political plan under the Constitution; it is a system of government that is the opposite of our Constitutional government."  We must "pray that [God] will intervene to preserve our freedom just as He intervened in our obtaining it in the first place."

  1. I love the pure doctrine in this post! Not many people are willing to say, "I believe in God, and I believe he wants us to live according to His laws."
